Why I Love Calling Abilene Home! ❤️

Why I Love Calling Abilene Home After 40 Years

By Kam Zinsser | I’m Kam, Your Realtor

Some places are simply where you live. Others become part of who you are. For me, Abilene, Texas, is so much more than a place on the map. It’s home, and it has been for 40 wonderful years!

1. Where My Abilene Story Began

My Abilene journey began in 1986 when I moved here to attend Hardin-Simmons University. Little did I know how much this community would shape my life!

After graduating from HSU in 1989, I began teaching elementary music at Taylor Elementary School. Those years brought wonderful friendships with teachers, students, and parents. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Abilene and its people.

While teaching, I returned to HSU and earned my master’s degree in Counseling and Human Development in 1998. I then became a school counselor, spending one year at Taylor Elementary and six years at Wylie Intermediate.

My passion for education continued when I pursued a doctorate in Leadership Education in 2013, graduating in 2017.

Through every chapter, Abilene provided opportunities to learn, grow, and build lifelong relationships.

2. Where My Family Put Down Roots

Of all the wonderful things Abilene has given me, family is by far the greatest blessing.

This is where I raised my boys, made countless memories, and fell in love with a wonderful man. From school activities to family celebrations, Abilene has been the backdrop for so many special moments.

And one of my favorite things? My whole family lives here now!

There’s nothing quite like having the people you love nearby and watching your family grow in a community that means so much to you.

3. Why Abilene Will Always Have My Heart

What makes Abilene special? For me, it’s the people!

It’s the friendly faces around town, neighbors helping neighbors, and the genuine West Texas hospitality that makes you feel welcome.

Abilene has grown tremendously since 1986. Yet, its sense of community remains strong. From excellent educational opportunities and local businesses to beautiful neighborhoods and peaceful country living, there’s so much to appreciate.

The heart of Abilene has always been its people, and that’s what makes it home.

4. At Home with Kam: A Love for Cooking and Baking ❤️

Long before I became a Realtor, I discovered another passion — cooking and baking!

In middle school, I participated in a local FHA baking competition and advanced to the regional level. I loved experimenting with recipes and sharing my creations with family.

Some of my sweetest memories involve surprising my dad with something new from the kitchen. He always loved everything I made! Those moments are treasures I will forever hold close to my heart.

That lifelong passion inspired my food vlog, At Home with Kam, where I share favorite recipes, family traditions, and adventures in the kitchen.

Whether it’s a comforting soup, a homemade cake, or a simple family dinner, I love sharing recipes that bring people together.

You can follow my cooking adventures on my Facebook page!

To me, home is more than four walls. It’s family gathered around the table, laughter in the kitchen, and memories made with the people we love.

5. Helping Others Find Their Place to Call Home

After years in education, my journey led me into real estate. Although my career changed, my passion for helping people never did.

As a teacher and counselor, I helped families navigate important moments in their lives. Today, as a Realtor, I have the privilege of helping people through another exciting milestone — buying or selling a home.

For me, real estate isn’t just about houses and contracts. It’s about relationships, trust, and helping families find a place where their own stories can unfold.

With love for Abilene,
